Hi!!!
My name is Zoë Malcolm!
I write about found-family and breaking legacies. I write characters forced to forge their own stories with an honesty and curiosity they have to earn.
I also believe magic and science are sisters. Fantasy and science-fiction are simply the new myths. And just like myths of old… I want us to confront the stories we are told and the stories we tell ourselves.
I want us to be truth-seekers and dynamic-curious. I want us to dare to imagine that the secrecy of inter-generational trauma need not define us. I want us to challenge the roles of gender and ethnicity.
I want us to tell new stories! Our stories. With honesty, trust and love.
Family
I am a Black British-American dual citizen with family from the English, French, and Spanish-speaking Caribbean, who grew up between London and New York.
For five generations, the children have been born in a different country than the parents.
In my family, women never saw a body of water they didn’t want to cross!
Other passion (besides writing): Languages and Travel
Meanwhile, my knack for languages has allowed me to live in and travel continents. I speak English, Dutch, French, Swahili… and am known to dabble in a few others.
I have lived in London multiple times and lived in Belgium for seven years. I have spent time in Mexico, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Ghana, Nepal, Japan, France, Germany, Switzerland, Turkey.
There was one year when I was on 50 planes. I counted. Phew!
Stuff I do… (when not writing - hmmm…)
I have a College Scholar degree from Cornell University in Mathematics, Linguistics and English Literature and have had half a dozen careers from theater to healer to law to software.
I have had the strange honor… or audacity… to try whatever interests me.
